Tragedy in Ohio: 7-Month-Old baby girl to death by family dog

“I will never understand why!!!” she wrote. Turner, equally devastated, posted, “I’d give my life to bring my baby back.”
A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken a Columbus, Ohio community after a 7-month-old baby girl, Elizah Turner, was mauled to death by a family dog.
The fatal incident occurred on the morning of April 9 at the family's home on the Far South Side. According to authorities, the infant was rushed to a nearby fire station by a family member before being transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Despite efforts to save her, Elizah was pronounced dead at 11:43 am.
Columbus police have described the horrific event as a “tragic accident.” The family owned three pit bulls, and it remains unclear which of the dogs was responsible for the fatal bite.
All three animals have been taken into custody by Franklin County Animal Control as investigations continue. No criminal charges are currently expected.
Elizah’s grieving parents, Mackenzie Copley and Kameron Turner, have shared their heartbreak online. Copley posted photos of Elizah peacefully lying with one of the dogs, struggling to understand what went wrong.
"I will never understand why!!!" she wrote. Turner, equally devastated, posted, "I’d give my life to bring my baby back."
The family is now preparing to lay Elizah to rest, with her funeral scheduled for Monday.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover expenses and support the family during this unimaginable time, raising over $3,600 (Sh474,000) so far.
The tragedy has sparked renewed discussion over the safety of certain dog breeds, particularly pit bulls, in family homes. While pit bull ownership remains legal in Columbus, some areas in Ohio have laws restricting or banning the breed.
As the family mourns their tremendous loss, the community is left grappling with questions and heartbreak in the wake of an innocent life cut tragically short.
